OUR RECYCLING PROCESS
The three stages of our closed-loop recycling process.
1. COLLECT
We have three core methods to collect plastic bottle caps.
Our Voting Frame
The Voting Frame captures bottle caps from hospitality venues and organisations to make every visit count. Write a prompt on the board, and let your patrons choose their favourite answer by dropping a cap into the corresponding tube.
24/7 Public Drop-off Bin
If you’re looking to recycle your household plastic lids with us, please use our public drop-off bin.
Container Collection Schemes
In 2024, we started partnering with container collection schemes to ensure the plastic bottle caps at their facilities are being turned into valuable products.
2. RECYCLE & MANUFACTURE
At Boe Design, we provide end-to-end, recycling and manufacturing all in our Brisbane workshop.
How we recycle and manufacture
Our recycling and manufacturing process involves a number of steps to ensure we recycle effectively and create products that are loved and can be recycled over and over again.
1. Wash
This step involves removing any contaminants from the plastic, ensuring it is clean for its next journey as a new product.
2. Dry
Our sorting and shredding equipment requires dry input material to allow the lids to be processed efficiently and avoid creating corrosion to our metal equipment.
3. Sort
This step is crucial in developing circular manufacturing in Australia. In 2024, we developed a machine-learning algorithm and mechanical sorting machinery which efficiently separates lids by material type. This allows us to be precise with the plastic we use and make beautiful products.
4. Shred
All our material is shredded into small rice-sized granules which enables us to control the colour of our products and heat the plastic evenly.
5. Manufacture
The granules are heated and pressed into the products that we then sell. After the products have served their long and useful life, they can be returned to us to be recycled again and again.
3. SELL
We have a range of products and services to style your home or uplift your business’ recycling.
